Answers to common billing questions. For a full feature and limit breakdown by plan, see Plan comparison.
How do I manage billing?
Go to Billing (/settings/billing) while signed in — click your email at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Billing, or use the command palette (⌘K / Ctrl+K) under Settings. Click Manage billing to open the Stripe customer portal, where you can:
- Update your payment method
- View and download invoices
- Change your subscription plan
- Cancel your subscription
Parsivex does not store your card details — Stripe handles all payment data.
What happens when I cancel?
When your subscription is canceled (or reaches the end of a billing period after cancellation), Parsivex updates your account features immediately.
Paid features are removed right away. Your account falls back to the Free plan:
- Full findings list is hidden again
- Recurring scans, alerts, remediation scripts, and PDF export are disabled
- Scan limit drops to 1 lifetime scan
- AWS account, seat, and workspace limits drop to Free tier caps
If you had more workspaces or AWS connections than the Free plan allows, the oldest ones stay active and any extras become read-only. You can still view their scan history and reports, but you cannot run new scans or edit those resources until you remove the extras or upgrade again. Delete unused workspaces or connections from Settings to get back within your plan limits.
Your existing scan history and reports remain in your account. If you have not used your free lifetime scan yet, you can still run it and see your total savings estimate.
What happens if my payment fails?
If a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries automatically for about two weeks. During that retry window your subscription is past due and you keep full access to your paid plan — update your payment method as soon as you can so the next retry succeeds.
You will see a banner at the top of the app when payment fails. Click Update payment method to open the Stripe customer portal and fix your card. The banner disappears automatically once payment succeeds.
If Stripe cannot collect payment after all retries, your subscription becomes unpaid and paid features drop to the Free plan until you restore billing.
| Subscription state | Plan features |
|---|---|
| Active | Full features for your tier |
| In free trial | Full features for your tier |
| Payment overdue (past due) | Full features for your tier during Stripe retries |
| Payment failed (unpaid) | Free plan only (paid features off) |
| Canceled | Free plan only (paid features off) |
You may see a status badge next to your plan name in Billing (/settings/billing) when your subscription is not active.
How do scan limits work?
Paid plans include a monthly scan allowance that resets on the first day of each calendar month at 00:00 UTC:
| Plan | Scans |
|---|---|
| Free | 1 (lifetime — does not reset) |
| Starter | 4 per month |
| Monitoring | 20 per month |
| Team Plan | 100 per month |
Only completed scans count toward your limit — failed scans do not, so you can retry after fixing connection or permission issues.
When you reach your limit, the Run new scan button is disabled and you see a usage meter on the dashboard. On paid plans, wait until the next month or upgrade for a higher allowance. On Free, upgrade to run additional scans.
Can I upgrade mid-cycle?
Yes. If you already have an active subscription and choose a higher plan, Parsivex opens the Stripe customer portal with a subscription update confirmation flow. Stripe prorates the charge for the remainder of your billing period.
To upgrade:
- Click View plans anywhere in the app, or go to Billing → View plans (
/settings/billing) - On the plan chooser (
/upgrade), compare Starter, Monitoring, and Team Plan side by side and choose one. If you arrived from a locked feature, the plans that unlock it are marked - Confirm the plan change in Stripe
- Your new plan features take effect as soon as Stripe confirms the update (usually within seconds)
Downgrading follows the same portal flow. You can move from Team Plan → Monitoring → Starter, or cancel entirely. Stripe applies downgrades according to its billing rules — typically at the end of the current period. When a downgrade takes effect, features above your new tier are removed immediately (for example, moving from Monitoring to Starter disables cost anomaly alerts, PDF export, and schedule control).
I am on Free — how do I subscribe?
Choosing a plan on Pricing (or clicking Get started) takes you through sign-up and a free first scan in the onboarding wizard — everyone runs a scan before subscribing. Paid plans start at Starter ($39/month or €29/month) for continuous monitoring with monthly re-scans. Once your scan has run, click View plans from your report — or anywhere else in the app — to open the plan chooser and pick the plan that fits. After payment succeeds in Stripe, your plan features update automatically.
Which currency will I be charged in?
Parsivex shows subscription prices in USD by default and in EUR for visitors in Europe (based on your location when you browse the site). Your billing currency is captured when you sign up and stays consistent on the pricing page and on the in-app plan chooser — even if you travel later.
At Stripe Checkout, the currency that matches your region is pre-selected, but you can switch between USD and EUR before paying. Your card is charged in the currency you confirm at checkout.
For current plan amounts in either currency, see Pricing or Plan comparison.
AWS cost and savings figures are always shown in USD — the same currency AWS uses on your bill. Potential waste, realized savings, finding estimates, anomaly alerts, and report totals are never converted or relabeled to match your subscription currency.
What billing details do I enter at checkout?
At Stripe Checkout you enter the details that appear on your invoices:
- Name — the person or business name billed (use your company name here for business invoices)
- Billing address — required before you can complete checkout
- VAT / tax ID — optional; EU and other business customers can add a VAT number so it appears on every invoice
Your address determines the tax applied to your subscription. Tax is calculated automatically and shown as a separate line before you pay, and again on every invoice. Business customers who enter a valid VAT number in an eligible region have the reverse charge applied, so no tax is added.
Stripe saves these on your customer record, so they carry over to future renewals and receipts automatically. To change them later, open Billing → Manage billing (/settings/billing) and update your details in the Stripe customer portal — new invoices pick up the change.
What emails will I get about my subscription?
Billing-related email comes from two senders, and they cover different things. Searching your inbox for "Parsivex receipt" usually will not find a payment receipt — receipts are sent by Stripe, not Parsivex.
From Stripe
Stripe sends payment emails from its own domain (not @parsivex.com). Look for the sender name Parsivex with a Stripe address, or search for "Stripe" plus your invoice number.
| When you get it | What it contains | |
|---|---|---|
| Receipt (successful payment) | Every time you are charged | Amount, invoice number, tax lines, hosted invoice URL, and PDF download |
| Failed payment (dunning) | A renewal charge fails | Notice that payment failed and a link to the Stripe customer portal to update your card |
Stripe retries failed renewals automatically for about two weeks. You may receive more than one failed-payment email during that window. Parsivex does not send these — Stripe does. See What happens if my payment fails? for how that affects your plan access.
From Parsivex
Parsivex sends short product emails from hello@parsivex.com (display name Parsivex). They explain what changed in your account — never prices, invoices, or card details.
| When you get it | |
|---|---|
| Welcome | Right after you create your account |
| Activation nudge | If you have not connected AWS or run a scan yet |
| Plan activated | When a paid plan becomes active (including upgrades) — lists features your plan unlocks |
| Subscription canceled | When your subscription ends after you cancel (or Stripe deletes it) — explains Free plan limits and that your data is kept |
| Account deleted | Confirmation after you delete your Parsivex account |
A failed payment does not trigger the Subscription canceled email. That message is only for explicit cancellation. While Stripe retries your card, you get Stripe's dunning email instead.
Parsivex billing confirmations are transactional — they are always sent and have no unsubscribe option, because they confirm a change to your account. Scan and alert emails are separate; you can manage those in Settings → Notifications.
Account deletion and billing
Deleting your Parsivex account cancels any active Stripe subscription immediately with no refund. See the security FAQ for full account deletion details.
